The Wilderness Downtown
This is amazing: thewildernessdowntown.com check it out.

It’s the video for Arcade Fire’s track, “we used to wait” and has taken things to the next level. It uses Google maps integration to pull in pictures and create video of your home town and integrate it seamlessly into the experience. It massively improves the context and effect of the song by personalising the experience and bringing the lyrics to life.
It also exclusively uses HTML5, rather than flash. This means it’s safest to view this on Chrome, as many browsers are not supporting it fully yet. However, it does mean that it should run on iPads etc – as Apple has famously snubbed flash in favour of the emerging HTML5. Certainly, it’s is very impressive indeed. However, some of the visual effects would be a lot slicker if they were done with flash. Also, ironically, the accessibility of this experience is actually less because it doesn’t use flash. Far less people have an HTML5 enabled browser than a flash plugin installed.
That said, I’m totally blown away by this and it’s good to show people the potential of HTML 5. Doing things like this speeds up the support for HTML5 which will benefit everyone.
Hats off to Google, Arcade Fire and everyone involved in the project.

The Future of Social Media and its implications for brands
On the 10th Feb I went along to the Facebook Developers Garage and gave a talk on “The Future of Social Media and its implications for brands“. This is the second time i have spoken at ‘the Garage’ and i really enjoyed it. It’s quite a a diverse crowd but always with a strong contingent of techies. The first time i spoke there was in May 09 and the details of this talk are on the saint blog here.
Here is a video of the presentaion at the FB Garage
Facebook Developer Garage London – Adam Graham – February 2010 from Newspepper on Vimeo.
Here is a write up of the version presented at the garage by @ThatGirl_Chloe
A couple of weeks later, as a result, i was asked if i could speak at the Social Media World Forum. I didnt have time to prepare a new presentation and they said that this one would actually fit perfectly into the section i was being asked to speak at which was about the future of social media. So, i gave it a little polish and basically presented the same thing. This time round it was better, as i had added in a few more bits, such as social search, and I just presented it better the second time round.

Here is the deck itself. The slides on their own dont tell you much, as most of the good stuff is what i said. the key points of this are contained in the notes section, which you can access if you view the prez on slideshare

Regular Column in Admap
This year I have a regular column in Admap magazine. You can read February’s edition here
They have just re-branded, so my piece is in the first in the fresh new look.
The column is called “The Lowdown” and is a pretty straight feature which aims to give people an explanation on a variety of digital marketing solutions available to them nowadays.
This month’s feature is on Spotify, next month’s is Twitter and the month after that will be MMOGs. Beyond that, I haven’t written yet!
I think that Admap is a great magazine for people in our industry. It’s a lot more cerebral with a strong focus on planning. This month’s edition specifically is on “the future of planning” and contains a number of excellent articles from the likes of Jon Steele, MT Rainey and Simon Clemmow to name a few. Well worth a read, i would say.
I will also be blogging on their site. As soon as this is set up, I’ll post a link from here.
