Extraordinary satellite photos of Earth
Check out these extraordinary satellite photos of Earth from Design your way. proving that there is so much beauty around us. You just need a different perspective to see it sometimes.
Since the first satellite photos of Earth on August 14, 1959 things have evolved a little. A little more I would say, as you would be shocked to see a comparison between the photos here and the first ones ever taken from space. Since then, though, NASA has found a lot of beautiful places on Earth that many of us have never seen. From what I’ve seen in these great satellite pictures, the deltas look simply awesome. Also, the frosty places like mountains, fjords or glaciers have a dreamy look that looks almost photoshopped.

Smart, responsive and elegant, the Copenhagen Wheel is a new emblem for urban mobility. Capturing the energy used in braking, this can be re-used when you need a boost. It also links to your smart phone to enable a host of features such as traffic info and social sharing of your journeys.
I’m very impressed with this. Makes me almost want to get on my bike…. almost!

APOD: 2010 January 20 – The Known Universe
Be prepared to feel small. Very small.
Full screen this badboy and experience a 3d fly-through of the known universe, to scale.
More like this here: APOD: 2010 January 20 – The Known Universe.
What would it look like to travel across the known universe? To help humanity visualize this, the American Museum of Natural History has produced a modern movie featuring many visual highlights of such a trip. The video starts in Earth’s Himalayan Mountains and then dramatically zooms out, showing the orbits of Earth’s satellites, the Sun, the Solar System, the extent of humanities first radio signals, the Milky Way Galaxy, galaxies nearby, distant galaxies, and quasars. As the distant surface of the microwave background is finally reached, radiation is depicted that was emitted billions of light years away and less than one million years after the Big Bang. Frequently using the Digital Universe Atlas, every object in the video has been rendered to scale given the best scientific research in 2009, when the video was produced. The film has similarities to the famous Powers of Ten video that has been a favorite of many space enthusiasts for a generation.

How Google Goggles could impact marketing
For people who aren’t fully up to speed, check out this 2 minute video explaining Google Goggles
How Google Goggles Could Impact Marketing
Many things can be done (or not done) with regard to products and storefronts to provide more value to customers and make shopping easier. An analogy is the way natural search, paid search, and search engine optimization work in concert. Users will see naturally occurring results regardless of where they are.
At some point in the future those results could have paid listing next to them or could be enhanced in some way. For example if a person is walking down the street looking for a place to get a coffee they see a Starbucks .25 miles away and next to that appears an ad for Mom and Pop Coffee Shop .5 miles away. So the person is made aware of a local option just a little further away.
Finally products and store fronts will be able to be optimized to better market themselves. For example logos could be optimized to be easily photograph-able (make them 2D not 3D). Search results could be specific to a model number to provide end users the most important information. For example if I were in market for a new car and saw one that I liked on the street photographing the trim level/logo could return results of fast it accelerates, the mpg and the cost if search results were properly optimized.
My guess is that Layers on Google maps will offer a lot of opportunities for augmented reality marketing through Goggles. Definitely a product to watch over the next year.

It’s not technology that has the power to change the world, but the creativity of the people using it.
Just read this article on “The decade of the mobile internet“. It’s an interesting piece, exploring the pros and cons of the inevitable ubiquity of mobile internet access. As mobile phones become more affordable and more prevalent in developing areas, so the internet is available to more people who have never experienced it.
This brings many benefits, such as weather reports to small village fishermen. But it also allows the spreading of less constructive information to occur at a much faster pace.
This is the world that many of us have been living in for some time. The internet brings people together, whether they be good or very bad indeed. It makes minorities feel less isolated and can facilitate validation of the most extreme views.
Personally, i have faith in human nature.
You just have to hope that there are more people out there who will use this powerful tool for good.
Often it only takes a small %age of people to create problems for a large proportion of a community. That minority are not representative of their community but in many cases people are scared to do anything to try and deal with the problems. Online, however, people are not afraid to air their opinions – they can be forthright with their views and tackle the issues head on.
Getting things out in the open where they can be exposed may be the best solution.
I hope so anyway.
